VENICE BEACH SERIES

Paiement spent the month of February, 2013 in Venice Beach, California living a block away from the famous boardwalk. Everyday, he would wander out into the crowds with his sketch book under his arm. He found all the light, colors, activity, costumes and shapes exciting and did a series of drawings capturing the flavor of these surroundings. When Paiement got back to the studio in Maine, he expanded on the Venice Beach theme. He used collage, woodcut overlays and simple blocks of color to create the shapes from the drawings searching out the frenzied patterns and the delicate, beach light.
